The Challenge

Many outdoor enthusiasts face a dilemma: they want to enjoy both the comfort of a camper and the thrill of other recreational vehicles (RVs) such as ATVs, boats, or dirt bikes. However, existing towing regulations prohibit simultaneously pulling multiple trailers. As a result, campers must make a difficult choice: either sacrifice the convenience of their camper to tow additional recreational equipment or forgo the adventure by leaving their toys behind. This limitation hinders the seamless integration of camping and recreational activities. Our design challenge is to create innovative solutions that allow campers to enjoy the best of both worlds without compromising safety, convenience, or legal compliance.

Role: Industrial Designer
Duration: 3 Months

Date: 2020

Weight Distribution: Maintain proper weight distribution to prevent instability. The added weight of the ATV can affect the camper’s balance. Ensure that the camper’s axles can handle the combined weight.

Secure Mounting: Use a robust and secure mounting system for the ATV. Consider custom racks or specialized carriers designed for this purpose. Secure the ATV with straps, tie-downs, or clamps to prevent shifting during travel

Aerodynamics: The ATV on the roof creates additional wind resistance. Opt for an aerodynamic design that minimizes drag. Streamlined roof racks and fairings can help reduce fuel consumption and improve stability

Visibility: Ensure that the ATV doesn’t obstruct your view through the rearview mirror. Use additional mirrors if necessary. Consider installing backup cameras for better visibility
